Christmas 2008

Well, we survived Christmas here on Rocky Top. Silas did not understand the concept of Santa on Christmas Eve. Every time we asked him if he was ready for Santa to visit, he would respond with a firm “NO!” Then he would tell us that Santa was at work. When he crawled in bed with us Christmas morning, we asked him if he wanted to go see what Santa brought him—he looked at us like we were crazy! We finally coaxed him into the living room and he saw his gifts. (There had been no packages under the tree when he went to bed. His pregnant momma has been a tad lazy this holiday season so she and Daddy were up past midnight wrapping.) Santa doesn’t wrap his gifts so he had a few treasures laid out on the floor. He went directly to a book that Santa left for him. This really surprised us because he blew past his football uniform to get to it. After he flipped through the book, he noticed the football helmet. He had to put on the entire uniform right then. The pads, jersey, pants, and helmet. It was really intended for a 4 year old, but it worked just fine. He LOVES it, and has worn it everyday since.

Steven was very thoughtful with his gifts for me. He chose several books that I have really been wanting. Silas picked out a necklace for me. Steven also picked out a few other things that I am really going to enjoy. Steven seemed to enjoy his gifts as well. You know, he never gets overly excited about anything. That’s how he rolls. ☺

The Bridges are coming to visit on Sunday or Monday. Silas has been dying to open Gran-pa and Nana’s gifts for them. I’m sure they will let him “help”. (They did! Now he thinks he is supposed to get presents every week)

Our theme for our tree this year was ABCs and snowflakes. Sie loved picking the “S” off of the tree and bringing it to us to tell us what it was. This was also our first year to have an artificial tree. Lowe’s was having a big sale so we started weighing our options. We love our real tree. It has been our tradition to go to the same lot every year and pick one out. However, there is just so much maintenance with real trees. Now that Silas is very, umm, active, and there is a new baby on the way, we decided that an artificial tree would make our life a bit simpler. So welcome to the family Christmas Tree…we will cherish you for years to come!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and continues to have a safe and happy holiday!
